Concerning the measures taken by Pakistan's authorities to improve eastern borders’ security, General Ghasem Rezaei said “we have some security issues on our borders with Pakistan which I discussed with the authorities of the country during my recent trip there.”
“Following the discussions, the border security between Iran and Pakistan has been enhanced,” Rezaei added, urging the authorities of Pakistan to cooperate with Iran in controlling and monitoring their shared borders since they are Iran’s most costly borders with a neighboring country.
“We expect the government of Pakistan to concentrate on our shared borders even more than before and to increase the number of military units assigned to this area," he stressed.
Rezaei went on to note that in the past years terrorist groups have attacked the region, kidnapped several of Iranians and buried them across the border in the Pakistan soil. He called for the return of the bodies of the martyrs to their families.
Rezaei highlighted the promising relations and communications with Pakistan officials in the past few months, adding "a delegation from Pakistan is expected to travel to Iran in the near future so that the respective officials can discuss issues related to border security between the two countries."
